Writers strike? Now what?

Since the writers of our daily entertainment have decided to go on strike, you have probably noticed all of the re-runs on TV. Late night TV now sucks, there's the possibility of no new 24 with Jack, in fact no new shows period.

I fully support the writers and their strike, because it is a very democratic and American idea in itself. The writers feel as if they are getting cheated and mistreated, then the producers and studios balked at their demands and requests, so now they take to the streets in protest! They aim to take power away from these mighty and rich studios and corporations, and make their voice heard! It's admirable, American, and boring as hell! Yes, I said boring because it really is for us: The Viewers.

So we are now the ones getting punished too! No new TV! No late night laughs! No finding out what will happen on our favorite Soaps! (Ok, so I don't watch soaps but I'm sure plenty of people want to know if Nick really survived from the poison that got put into his drink by that lying whore Veronica!) Plus re-runs are boring! Seriously, I was just watching an old old episode of the Tonight Show and seriously, it was even worse than it is now aka not funny. So now what?

Perhaps this could be a good thing for America. Maybe this will force people to stop watching regular and mindless TV, and turn to things that are more important. Things like the Political debates or forums. Things like the news or even better; documentaries and educational shows on PBS, the Discovery Channel or the History Channel. Maybe people will start to watch Animal Planet or National Geographic and actually learn something.

Or perhaps something truly phenomenal will happen.....People will turn off their TVs all together. Maybe a family will go to the Ice rink or Mini-Golf park instead! Perhaps dad will decided that they've already seen that episode of Desperate Crap Wives and take the wife and kids to get Ice Cream instead. Maybe grandma will decide that watching a re-run will not be nearly as beneficial as playing Monopoly with the fam.

Maybe a parent will actually READ to their kids something great like The Chronicles of Narnia or an old forgotten fable.

Americans have a real chance right now to break free from the ball and chain called a TV that stops them from calling a relative, or a neighbor, or spending quality time with each other.

This opportunity could supercharge neighborhoods and families, friends, businesses, education!

I hope the writers stay on strike for a long, long time, because then America might remember that we don't need them anyway, and remember how strong of a nation we are without mindless TV.

Nuclear Energy is a STUPID idea

Reasons why Nuclear energy is BAD for America

  1. 1. It's NOT clean or good for the environment. The mining and refining process for nuclear fuel is extremely dirty and required HUGE amounts of fossil which negates the claim that it has no CO2 emissions. The reactors and buildings themselves are also built with tons of fossil fuel consuming equipment.http://http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article=3039

  2. 2. There's no way to properly dispose of the nuclear waste. Nuclear waste never goes away. We cannot build adequate storehouses or waste sites that will keep the waste from getting into our air and water systems. Plus it is extremely costly to build these worthless sites and even more costly to safely deliver and handle the toxic waste. http://http://www.grist.org/news/maindish/2006/08/08/stang/

  3. Nuclear power plants are extremely vulnerable to terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

  4. Current nuclear power plants are rapidly becoming outdated and prone to malfunctions

  5. Nuclear power plants have dozens of "close calls" every yearhttp://www.ohiocitizen.org/campaigns/electric/nucfront.html

  6. Nuclear power is extremely expensive and is nearly completely tax funded ans subsidized because no investors will invest in it because it is too much of a risk. Tax payer money also insures plants in case there were ever to be an accident. http://http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0509-22.htm

  7. If there ever were an accident, thousands of people would die, many more thousands would become deathly ill and acres and acres of land would become inhabitable and worthless for farming.

  8. The world is running low on nuclear fuel, and this has caused prices to skyrockt for the elements needed to create it.

  9. Nuclear waste is vulnerable to theft and could be used for terrorist weapons

  10. Nuclear power is the main contributor in the world today for nuclear proliferation. Every rouge nation (except Isreal) obtained its atomic weapons from waste that was produced from their own nuclear power plants. http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/11/26/5448/

Are Republicans being bad Christians?

If the Republican Party and the Republican candidates insist on touting themselves as the "moral" party and the defenders of the "religious right" then why do they have such a hypocritical attitude towards Health care reform?
Most Republicans are passionately against making health care available for millions of lower and middle class Americans. They say that the system is fine and strongly oppose government interference and think that those less well off should just simply go without, or work harder in life.
I've even had one Republican supporter tell me that the reason that all of these poor folk can't obtain health care is not because they can't afford it, but rather that they choose not to have it.
However, with health care costs and pharmaceutical prices out of control, the Republican party would rather turn their backs upon millions of underprivileged Americans rather than reform the system to help these families out.
Isn't this extremely contradictory and hypocritical to the Republican claim that they represent the moral and religious right of America? Or at least far more religious and moral than the Democratic party right?
Christianity preaches that we are to help the poor and needy. We are required to give our neighbor anything that he needs without question, and above all, to love thy neighbor as thy self.
SO why then do republicans refuse to acknowledge this huge and financially dangerous problem facing American citizens?
If the Republican party is going to claim to be moral and religious, then they should practice what they claim to be about. They need to be more compassionate towards the poor and less fortunate, or they need to stop their hypocritical rhetoric by claiming that they are moral and representing the righteous.
It would appear as if they are only out to help themselves, and that is not the Christian way.
